The water here
Longship Lantern takes us north to a coast of fjords and pine, where carved prows rest on the shingle and horns sound across still water. The symbols draw on Norse legend: wolves with frost in their fur, sturdy longships, drinking horns and painted shields, all lit as if by a lantern swinging from a mast. The layout is a familiar five-by-three, easy to read in a single look.
Reading a round
Each spin draws a set amount of fictional credits. Keep an eye on the shields, as each one holds a credit figure. Here is the quirk that gives the game its character: when a spin brings just a shield or two, the reel strip can slide a notch higher or lower, hauling fresh shields onto the grid. It is a small mechanical flourish, rather like a boat drifting a few feet on its mooring line, and it means a quiet spin can occasionally fill in at the last moment.
Below deck: the bonus round
The bonus round comes in two forms, and whichever you reach decides how its free spins behave. In the first, a shield that hits expands to cover its whole reel, so the grid can fill quickly. In the second, wheel symbols come into play and set a multiplier wheel turning, which scales the credits on show. In either version, value symbols can award three extra free spins, stretching the round a little further. As always on this quay, every credit total is fictional. It cannot be bought, carried out of the game or exchanged for anything.
Easy does it at the helm
Nudges are designed to feel like near things, and near things are what tempt people to keep going. Knowing that helps. Pick a finishing time at the outset and keep to it, whatever the reels happen to be doing. Spin by hand rather than leaning on autoplay, so each round stays a deliberate choice. Take a break every so often: stand up, put the kettle on, look out of the window. And if you ever notice you are playing to shift your mood rather than for a bit of fun, our safer play page lists people in Ireland who are ready to listen. Longship Lantern is for over-18s, and it is only ever a game.
Quay rules for this berth. Longship Lantern is free to play, open to over-18s only and here purely for amusement. The credits it hands out are make-believe: nobody can purchase them, collect them as a prize, withdraw them or trade them for money or goods, and no real-money wagering happens anywhere on this quay.
