Privacy notice

What we store, why we store it and the rights you have under Irish and EU data protection law.

Last updated: 9 October 2026

At a glance

Nobody needs an account to use Harbour Lamp, and we never ask for personal details in order to play. Two tiny settings are saved in your own browser, one for the age gate and one for your cookie decision. Emails you send are read and answered, and used for nothing else. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you strong rights over your data, and the Data Protection Commission is there if you ever want to complain.

The controller

Whoever operates harbourlamp.com acts as the data controller for this site. Privacy questions and requests go to [email protected].

Each kind of data, explained

Settings saved on your device

KeyStored inWhy it existsLawful basis
hl_age_okYour browser’s local storageLets the age gate know you have already said you are 18 or older, so it stays closed as you move between pagesArticle 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in restricting the quay to adults. The storage is strictly necessary.
hl_consentYour browser’s local storageHolds the button you pressed on the cookie banner, “Accept all” or “Reject non-essential”Article 6(1)(c) GDPR: the law requires us to honour and remember consent decisions.

Neither value travels to us. Both sit in your browser, out of our sight, until you remove them.

Emails

Writing to us shares your address, any name you sign with and the contents of your note. We use that solely to reply. Our lawful basis is a legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kindly leave out anything sensitive, such as medical or banking information.

Server request data

Whenever a browser fetches one of our pages, the hosting servers necessarily see some technical details, including the IP address, the browser and device type and a timestamp. Those details let the pages be delivered and help guard against misuse, and the host holds them no longer than that purpose requires. Lawful basis: a legitimate interest in keeping a website running safely.

The game frames

Pressing play inside a berth loads the game from the developer’s own servers. In doing so the developer receives request details, your IP address and browser among them, and it may save settings of its own on your device. Its privacy terms, not ours, govern that. Leaving a game unopened avoids it entirely.

Measurement and advertising tools

None are installed at the moment. Our pages begin every visit with advertising and analytics consent set to “denied”. Should we ever add such a tool, it would only run once you have pressed “Accept all”, and this notice would be revised first.

Things we steer clear of

  • Creating profiles or user accounts.
  • Selling, renting or swapping anyone’s personal data.
  • Asking for card or bank details; there is nothing to pay for.
  • Knowingly handling information about under-18s.

Retention

  • Device settings: they remain until you wipe your browser’s site data or make a new cookie choice.
  • Emails: held while we are corresponding, then removed no later than 12 months after our final reply, unless a legal claim means a message must be held for longer.

Who else sees data

Only the companies that host the site and handle our email, acting under our instructions, or an authority legally entitled to it. Advertisers receive nothing from us.

Outside the EEA

If a provider handles data beyond the European Economic Area, we depend on protections approved under the GDPR, for instance a European Commission adequacy finding or the Commission’s model contract clauses.

What you are entitled to

The GDPR lets you:

  • ask for a copy of whatever personal data we hold on you;
  • get mistakes put right;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • limit our use of it, or object to that use;
  • take your data elsewhere in a portable form, where the law allows;
  • change your mind about consent whenever you like, through “Cookie settings” at the foot of each page.

Send any request to [email protected]. The law gives us one month to answer, and we may need to confirm your identity before acting.

Raising a complaint

Ireland’s supervisory authority is the Data Protection Commission. We would be glad of the chance to fix a problem ourselves, but there is no obligation to come to us first.

Young people

This quay is for adults. Data about under-18s is never knowingly processed here; if a young person has emailed us, tell us and the message will be erased.

About Harbour Lamp itself

The site hosts free social games purely for amusement. No real money is staked, nothing is wagered, and the credits within each game are pretend and carry no monetary value.

Revisions

When our data practices change, this notice will change with them, and the date near the top will show when.
